Automobile Innovation by Walt E. Ingalls

(February 28, 2015)

Cars have, no doubt, been changing with the times. It’s a rather amazing process, if you think of it, and some may consider it revolutionary evolution. The simple fact is, the automobile industry strives for innovation, and as the next best, latest greatest change comes along, it always leads to a better, later and greater advance in the industry.

Over the years, we’ve gone from front bench seats, to buckets seats with head-rests, and high-beams toggled from a peddle on the floor to daytime running lights that automatically turn on, hard to turn large vehicles to power steering, more compact cars. We’ve seen the 90’s bring us easy ways of controlling our transmission like a manual even when in automatic. Automobiles have become easier and easier to live with.

I’m not sure if you remember, but there were cars that didn’t have seatbelts, and now we have airbag systems that even protect the driver's head from bumping the passenger’s. There are intricate computer systems that allow us to alter the sequence of shifting, setting us from sport mode—agile handling to economic fuel reserving modes.

It’s all quite interesting, the advancements that this multi trillion dollar industry has brought us to and through, and it only gets better.

We have advance breaking systems, as well as drive systems that calculate the grip of each tire, thus distributing a sliding scale of traction to each tire, there are even auto-correcting features in some models that take control when we’ve spun around, and redirect the car in the original direction it was traveling.

As we explore the edges of the earth for sustainable energy sources that leave the lightest footprint on earth, we’ve come to embrace electric motors and hybrid systems that wean us off of the fossil fuels we, as a people, have become rather dependant on.

There are still so many choices out there, and the prices range from note-worthy pint-sized money savers, to expansively luxurious expenses that only a few people can currently afford to take advantage of.

In fact, today’s automobiles represent the most technologically sophisticated objects that consumers own.

According to www.autoalliance.org:

“A recent report by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a global management consulting firm operating in 43 countries, found that almost half of the world’s top 20 “Most Innovative Companies” are automakers.

In fact, for the first time this year’s top 20 list included more automobile manufacturers than technology companies. Fourteen automakers are included in BCG’s top 50 innovative companies — only four years ago, BCG put eight auto firms on its list.”

auto.howstuffworks.com embraces these changes with:

“Many new car technologies are either specifically built for safety or at least have some sort of safety focus to them. Some of the latest car innovations we've found are some truly exciting technologies that could revolutionize not just the automotive industry but human transportation in general.

So what's in store for future cars? Well, we don't know for sure, but based on what's currently being tested and what's on the road today, we have an idea of some new technology that will most likely make it into production. Some of it will help keep us safe, some will give us information like never before and some will let us kick back and just enjoy the ride.”

Now is the time, if you’ve not owned a new car with modern advancements, to step out into the world and experience what a change cars and trucks of today have become.

Welcome to your car. Enjoy shopping!

2015 Compact Crossover SUVs by Walt E. Ingalls

(March 9th, 2015)

We’ve reached a new generation of automobile recently, as several car makers offer a compact crossover SUV. These are amazing answers to the fuel-efficient yet versatile and spacious needs we, not long ago, had decided was an urgent need in America.

Keep in mind, though there are several available on the market, there is a difference from one to the next, and what might be best for you personally, may not be the right fit for someone else. See this is a great place to exercise your individual needs and personality traits.

See, your car, like your home and apparel choices, gives off subtle and genuine hints of the type of person you are, and in several cases, can easily influence those around you to relate to you, and thereby help them in the decision process regarding if you’ll be an appropriate and practical connection, instilling subliminal affirmations in terms of a beneficial affiliation.

Some people pride themselves on making and appointing decisions of mindful spending; whereby being frugal is a personal commodity. Yet, others find a degree of value in budgeting decisions that exude a quality of finer tastes.

These are all circumstances and decisions that, in turn, help others to relate and invest belief that your decisions may be more similar to the decisions they would make directly.

A safe suggestion to make when purchasing a new car is to research the tastes and choices your boss or supervisor at work has; for, accomplishing an agreeable decision could easily leverage your position to a more responsible process of making decisions.

The 2015 Dodge Journey, Mini Cooper Countryman, Subaru XV Crosstrek, Hyundia Tucson, Chevrolet Equinox, and Subaru Forester are all logical decisions whose base models are all below $25,000, and as you can clearly see in any of their reviews, their ratings are plenty good. Although this year, Subaru seems to be leading the safety ratings with the most high-rated available models, it has come to my attention that Chevy is leading 2015 with the most awards over-all.

All these Models have their own strengths; however, there’s three compact crossover SUVs that I personally like above and beyond the rest.

One is the 2015 GMC Acadia. Quite simply, the styling and shape of this automobile is a perfect balance of robustly boxy, and smoothly sloping. It is, quite honestly, a delight to see, and as anyone should know, your feelings when approaching your car should be engaging and fulfilling.

The 2015 Ford Edge is a generously styled compact that happened to inherit some of the lines accustomed to the Land Rover family. All and all, the Edge is an animal with clean lines and comfortable styling fit for any range of specialized tastes.

Finally, the 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan, a pleasant bosom of bliss engineered to even out-perform some sport sedans on the market today. US News states, “Reviewers agree that the Volkswagen Tiguan’s powerful engine and engaging handling make it a great performer…”

A few others to consider are:
- the more car-like Honda Crosstour
- the dramatically different styling of the Nissan Juke
- the roomy and austere Ford Explorer
- the Toyota 4Runner which has had similar styling for several years
- the cost-effective Jeep Patriot, with a base price under $18,000
- the popular Toyota Highlander
- the redesigned Nissan Murano
- the near luxury feel of the Buick Enclave

Take a time-out and prepare yourself for the least enjoyable part for most, the financial side.

5 Best Selling in America by Walt E. Ingalls
(February 24, 2015)

“Keeping up with the Jones’s” is a term that many acquaint to the daily competition of fulfillment, which to me, fulfillment is a recipe unique and personal to each individual person, and while we may be able to relate to others, by no means, in my opinion, should we be striving to duplicate what anyone around us is or has accomplished; we should, instead, be driven to find our own strengths and develop them to the best of our abilities.

This article is devoted to you, each individually, as you refine your search for the automobile that suits you, yourself, as best as can be. See, it is my very belief that, what we grow to best understand, we develop the most appreciation for; as if our understanding is our interaction, and thereby our development of our very self.

Drawing from searches on the Internet, I’ve composed this list of automobiles, each at the top of the sales list—most popular in America. As a single entity, the American people are resourceful and as popular belief goes, most often correct, for we usually don’t have any problems, as Americans, voicing our praise and concerns of what we have spent our hard-earned pay on.

My first listed automobile of 2015 does not imply that it is my personal favorite, merely that it came to my attention first, as it has been ranked by www.autoblog.com as the #10, the 5 seater, 4-door, 2.5L, 176-hp, six speed, inline-4, automatic transmission, front-wheel driven or full-time all-wheel drive Toyota RAV4 weighing in from $23,680 to $29,850. The RAV4 has climbed nearly 17.5% since the beginning of 2014 in sales, which ultimately may mean the reviews for 2014 shows a care-free and dependable vehicle. The RAV4 comes standard with an anti-theft system, knee airbags, passenger seat cushion airbag, projector headlamps and front active headrests.

My second listing for 2015, again not an implication that I recommend as my second choice, yet merely an appointment of chronology of discovery is the Hyundia Sonata, which according to www.motortrend.com, this Model offers a list of quality features that keep buyers behind the wheel and not searching for a step-up or replacement. The Sonata is a 4-door sedan powered by a 2.4L, 185-hp that seats up to 5. The MSRP on the 2015 Sonata is $21,975 and the estimation calculated for buying this vehicle on a 60 month 2.5% APR is $262/mnth with $3700 down. To lease with $3700 down for a duration of 36 months is about $130/mnth.

Third on my unbiased list of automobiles in 2015 is the Honda CR-V, which has in the 12 month cycle, grown over 27% in sales numbers—again revealing that it is likely to be a very dependable Model and thus, a wise purchase and decision. The 5 passenger CR-V is available in both all-wheel drive configurations, as well as, front-wheel drive. The price range for this vehicle is $23,445 to $32, 895, all driven by a 185-hp, 2.4L inline-4, 5-speed transmission.

Next, as the fourth listed here by me, is the Ford Explorer, which, granting my opinion, is a sharp and respectable automobile that wields both loyalty to our American-made products, but also a subtle modesty of decision-making. The Explorer is the most popular three-row seating SUV for the first quarter of 2014. Buyers have a choice between three engines, 2.0L 4 cylinder, and two 3.5L V6 engines, and priced from $30,700 to $43,100. As you can see at www.ford.com, the Explorer has an available Inflatable 2nd-Row Outboard Safety Belts.

Fifth and final listing of this article is the 2015 Honda Accord, whose sales have increased 2% in the most recent year. Priced from $22,105 to $33,630, the Accord has a capable 2.4L four cylinder and a 3.5L V6 available. The Accord comes in both 2-door and 4-door, offers only a front-wheel driven with three transmission, the CVT, the 6-speed automatic and the 6-speed manual shift. According to www.washingtonpost.com ”So-called conventional hydraulic automatic transmissions, typically today with five to nine dedicated speeds (gears), aren't going away anytime soon; but two other alternate designs, dual-clutch gearboxes and continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs), both claim improvements in both performance and fuel efficiency. And one of them—the CVT—is gaining traction in the market at a far faster rate.”

Hybrids 2015 by Walt E. Ingalls
(March 4, 2015)

It is now 2015 and chances are, if you don’t already own one, you’ve been thinking about a hybrid automobile. Hybrids are all over the television, they are a hot topic for influential people to discuss, and they are a terrific way to cut back on energy costs and play your part on being conscious of our global footprint.

This article lists ten hybrids that could be your best bet on your next buy. Many hybrids are great at saving you money, as they cut back the energy used; however, not all of them are made for daily travel in excess of 100 miles, and some of them seem to take a good deal of time to recharge, so don’t begin to think that what you’ve learned of one applies to them all.

There are differences in hybrids, take for instance the ‘mild hybrid’, being the least efficient, has a battery and an electric helper motor; yet, the gasoline engine runs full time. An example of one of these ‘mild hybrids’ is the Honda IMA or the GM eAssist.

The ‘full hybrid’ is the most fuel efficient, and among ‘full hybrid’ there are still many types. In a ‘full hybrid’ some may run in part-time parallel, which is when the gasoline engine and the electric motor run at the same time, yet these ‘full hybrids’ can switch to all electric when at low speeds, and at other times they run in series mode which is when the gasoline engine runs to make power for the electric. ‘Full hybrids’ are EV and not PHEV , meaning they are electric, but not plug-in electric, and thus there must be gasoline to make charge for the electric motors.

Another type of hybrid is the ‘plug-in hybrid’. The ‘plug-in hybrid’ is the closest to pure electric powered and are similar to ‘full hybrid’ yet have larger batteries and are designed to run further on all electric.

There are also ‘micro hybrids’ which often only use an electric motor to start the gasoline engine, and may use start-stop technology. The ‘micro-hybrid’ does not use the electric motor to power the wheels.

In addition to these types of hybrids is ‘hybrid-enabling technologies’ which are engineered sequences that cause deceleration and breaking to charge the battery, so as you let off the gas, the system generates electricity from the already moving wheels.

Now to the list of ten hybrid automobiles:

- Chevy Volt (101 City/93 Hwy mpg)
- Fiat 500e (122 City/108 Hwy mpg)
- Smart Fourtwo Electric Drive (122 City/93 Hwy mpg)
- Ford Focus Electric (110 City/99 Hwy mpg)
- Tesla Model S (94 City/97 Hwy mpg)
- Nissan Leaf (126 City/101 Hwy mpg)
- BMW i3 (137 City/111 Hwy mpg)
- Honda Fit EV (132 City/105 Hwy mpg)
- Chevrolet Spark EV (128 City/109 Hwy mpg)
- Honda Accord Hybrid (50 City/ 45Hwy mpg)

Budgeting your First New Car by Walt E. Ingalls
(March 11th, 2015)

Are you a first time buyer-to-be? Let me tell you some of the things you’ll want to know about buying a new car. First, you’re not the only or first to jump from used cars with unpredictable futures into warrantee secured mechanical purchases. In fact, people have been doing it for nearly a century, so in case you didn’t know, if it was that poor of a choice to buy new cars, you’d be likely to see and hear that used-car dealers are god’s greatest gift to transportation issues. But, really, who has said anything remotely similar in nature? Exactly! So here’s you’re claim to fame, cut, dried, pressed, and delivered direct to you through the lil’ flat screen you’ve made it this far with: new cars are the best investment a driver can make!

I don’t want you to get too far ahead of yourself, if you happen to be envisioning your first new car and how well you’ll fit into it without a worry in the world, just like everything from your mouse to your washer and drier, the more you over do it, the more it will remind you of your limits.

Try, first, to look at the affordability.  Take your income and divide it into 5 parts. Two of those five parts, you should dedicate to your home.

Whether you’ve purchased a home with a mortgage or you rent, the payments are likely to be no larger than 1/3 of your income, and rarely is this ratio based on a new job, but instead, the earned average for the last 4-8 quarters (1-2 years) or more. Whether it’s a leasing management company, or a bank-loan, the specialists limit the consumer/client to roughly 33% of their gross earned income credits.

As you should have already grasped, 1/3 is smaller than two-fifths. This can easily be equated to the other costs of your home, so whereby the rent/lease/mortgage assumes 1/3 of your income, the remainder of that two-fifths is accounted for in utilities and normal housing costs, whether it be yard maintenance or assumed responsibilities like the occasional broken window or door.

The other three-fifths will see a utilization versed and governed by necessary spending like food and transportation. Just think about it, if you’ve done your provisioning correctly, your grocery bill should equal your savings, or be somewhere there-about in the same vicinity.

So, for argument’s sake, lets take your grocery bill and double it so we can all rest satisfied that not only are you nourishing yourself properly, but you’re waging your plans for the catastrophe of being, god-forbid, temporarily unemployed and still able to eat.

The rest of your monthly income, you can rest confidently in dedicating to your new car, for after two months of saving an equal amount to that of what you’ve consumed in food, you’ll have a luxurious decision to make: “Do I continue saving, or do I spend what I saved last month on something special—a quaint splurge of scintillating happiness?”

See how easy it could (and should) be?

So take your time and add up everything your W2s and 1099s have shown you for the past year then divide that by 12. That will give you your average monthly income.

From that calculation, simple divide that monthly income average into 5 parts. Dedicate 2 of the 5 to house and home and then study any single month’s combined total of grocery expenses. Double that and subtract that sum from the remaining amount calculated. What’s left over is the maximum amount you should consider for your car.

Some extenuating circumstances for instance, children, can change the equation, and yes, I have every belief you’re equipped to account for that.

Have a great day and enjoy your car shopping!
